Inspection
Non-destructive Testing
In addition to non-destructive testing of structures using elastic waves and our own developed technology, we also carry out inspections and surveys of concrete structures such as bridges and road accessories.
Here we will introduce an overview of our surveys/inspections.
Impact elastic wave testing
The surface of the concrete is struck with a steel ball about 20 mm in diameter, causing elastic waves to propagate into the concrete. These elastic waves are measured by a sensor installed near the point of impact, allowing the condition inside the concrete to be investigated. We use our iTECS product for the measurements. The impact elastic wave method has a wide range of applications, and can mainly be used to investigate the following:
| (1) | Measuring the thickness of concrete components |
|---|---|
| (2) | Detecting internal defects in concrete |
| (3) | Detecting floating and peeling concrete |
| (4) | Crack depth measurement |
| (5) | Inspection of the filling level of PC structural sheath |
| (6) | Estimating compressive strength using elastic wave velocity measurements |

Elastic waves are used to investigate the length of foundation piles and whether or not they are broken. The pile head is struck with a hand hammer to input elastic waves, and the response is measured by a sensor installed near the striking point.
Impact load test of piles (bearing capacity test)
This is a dynamic load test method that measures the bearing capacity of a pile by measuring the waves that propagate inside the pile when the pile head is struck with a hydraulic hammer or similar. Static test methods require the construction of reaction piles, which requires a great deal of effort and expense for measurement. Dynamic test methods can complete pile tests in a very short time.
Other non-destructive tests
- Measurement of natural frequencies of bridges
- Measuring the length of steel guardrail posts
- Ground compaction test
- Concrete pole integrity testing
Regular Inspection and Detailed Investigation
Bridge inspection and road accessory inspection
We carry out bridge and accessory inspections based on close-up visual inspections. We respond to customer needs by arranging inspection vehicles, aerial work platforms, traffic control, and other matters, as well as planning the process, taking photographs and sketching damage from on-site inspections, and compiling the results (entering them into the system).
Detailed investigation (repair design)
We are conducting detailed surveys of concrete structures.
- On-site damage inspection for cracks, frost damage, free lime precipitation, etc.
- Core sampling and chipping inspection (various indoor tests and corrosion assessment of rebar, etc.)
- Support for repair design (creating design drawings, quantity reports, calculating estimated construction costs, etc.)
Inspections and surveys are also carried out by Applied Research, Inc., a group company.
